Help Koats2Kids provide children with the warmth they need during the war in Ukraine
My mission is to provide warmth and comfort to children in Ukraine by collecting and donating coats to those in need. We believe that every child deserves protection from the harsh winter elements, and through our efforts, we aim to ensure that they can attend school and play outside safely. By coming together as a community, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of these children, helping them to thrive despite challenging circumstances.
Clothing for children is especially needed in the winter months in Ukraine due to the harsh weather conditions. Many families have been facing economic challenges and struggle to find warm clothing during the turmoil of the last 2 years, leaving children vulnerable to the cold.
In Ukraine the coldest part of the year is from December to February averaging daily high temperatures in the 20s F. The coldest month of the year in Kiev is January, with an average low of 21°F and high of 30°F.
All clothing received will be sent to Ukraine working with combinations of local, state and charitable organizations. The goal is to send them to Kirovohrad Ukraine, to one of the local schools that my grandfather attended. Your coats will help provide winter essentials to children who are in desperate need of warmth and comfort in the coming winter. Together, we can make a difference in their lives!
My Story
My name is Kira, and I’m a high school senior organizing a clothing drive to collect warm clothes for children in Ukraine. Having grown up in New England and Northern Virginia, I've come to appreciate the basic comforts of coats and gloves. My goal is to provide winter coats and other essentials that comfort kids my age during the harsh winter months in Ukraine. These basic essentials are often difficult to find in areas of conflict and are all too often hanging in our own closets unused and outgrown.
In the 1930s my dedushka (grandfather) lived in Ukraine in the city that was known as Kirovograd and attended what is now known as School #6. It was there that he fell in love with reading and memorized what seemed to be an endless list of poems. He often reminisced about his time there telling stories about his wartime upbringing when the Nazis invaded the city. We will be sending the donations to the schools my dedushka attended in his memory.
Stay tuned to a local drive in your area.
